I feel if Paul McGann reprises his role on television as the Eighth Doctor, I think any potential producer of the series should consider doing variations of his costume instead of having him wear the same frock coat, cravat and waistcoat attire all the time.

The Regency look. The clothing the figure to the left bears a close resemblance to the costume Mark Gatiss wore on Beeb Beeb Ceeb Two's Doctor Who night. I always thought this attire would work just as well for the Eighth Doctor. I think either the plaid get up that the figure is wearing or solid colours would work well. I also liked the eyeglasses that Mark Gatiss's Doctor sported as well (right). The Doctor has used the aide of some form of eye wear in the past, either a monocle or reading glasses.

Sort of like what they did for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker's era's as the Doctor. Where they had a basic motif for the costume. With Pertwee it was the frilly shirt and velvet frocks. With Baker it was the long scarf and floppy hat. But would do variations on it.

WILDE ATTIRE

Poet and playwrite Oscar Wilde wore some very Doctor Whoish clothing that I think would be smashing for the Eighth Doctor to wear when he doesn't feel like wearing his green frock coat certain days (why does everyone write the Doctor in a green frock. From all the pictures of Paul McGann it looks dark brown). But here are some pictures and see what I'm talking about.

THE CONSULTING DOCTOR

I thought a lot of the costumes that Jeremy Brett wore as Sherlock Holmes had a very Doctor Whoish quality to them as well and thought would be good for the Eighth Doctor.
